  • A very special Royal letter

    Sat 10 Sep 2022

With the sad news of the passing of Queen Elizabeth 11, it was a wonderful, yet poignant surprise to receive a letter from Buckingham Palace on Friday.

Last term the nursery and reception children wrote letters to the queen prior to her Platinum Jubilee celebrations. These letters included questions from the children asking her things such as, “What are your corgis called?”, “What do you like to eat?”, “How heavy is your crown?”, “Have you ever had chicken pox?” and “What is your favourite car?”. These letters were posted to the queen back in May.

We feel honoured to have received one of the last ever letters to be sent on behalf of the queen and very proud to know that she enjoyed reading our youngest children’s letters.

Our Year 5/6 children wrote to the Prime Minister a few weeks ago about their concern for plastic pollution. We were delighted to receive a letter from Boris Johnson’s correspondence officer, outlining the plan to eliminate all avoidable plastics.

  • Thank you to the sponsors of our new sports kits

    Sat 12 Feb 2022

Hurst Green football club and Ribble Gas solutions are the sponsors of our new football and sports kits. The children now look extremely smart and sporty when they take part in competitions against other schools. Josh and Hazel’s dad and Blake’s mum came into Friday’s assembly so we could thank them properly and present them with a signed football. Who knows, with the talent in our school, these could be worth a fortune one day!

  • St Joseph’s A Team are the winners of the year 3/4 Ribble Valley Gymnastics competition!

    Mon 07 Feb 2022

With only 4 weeks to prepare and extra practises taking place in the chapel, Mrs Geldard and Mrs Cowperthwaite are absolutely thrilled that our A team have won this competition. Although the B team haven’t gained a medal place, they performed magnificently too. We’ll done all and thanks to Jane Cowperthwaite for helping with the coaching.

  • We’re in the local press!

  • Royal Lancashire Bomb Disposal Visit!

Fri 21 Jan 2022 Laura Orr

We have had an exciting week in school as we had a visit from the Royal Lancashire Bomb Disposal Unit who brought their robot to demonstrate how coding and programming controls the robots movements. Their visit certainly evoked lots of discussion about using skills taught in school are used to create life saving equipment. We thank Penny’s mum Sarah and her team for taking the time to share their role in the Army and  for keeping us all safe here in the North West.

  • Meet our ECO warriors!

Fri 21 Jan 2022 Laura Orr

Miss Hall has been in search for a team of ECO warriors to help keep the green in Hurst Green! Each pupil had a chance to deliver a presentation to their class saying why they should represent their year group in making our school more environmentally friendly! Their classmates voted and here they are!

We look forward to protecting our planet with your guidance and care.

  • Blessing of the classrooms

Fri 07 Jan 2022 Laura Orr

We celebrated the Feast of the Epiphany with mass in the Chapel, followed by ‘Blessing of classrooms’ where we followed the three kings as they visited each classroom, blessed it with holy water saying

‘The three Wise Men, Casper, Melchoir and Balthasar, followed the star to where Jesus was born two thousand and twenty-two years ago. They did him homage and offered him gifts of gold and frankincense and myrrh.

May Christ bless this classroom and all those who teach and learn this year. May it be a place of joy and peace. Amen’

It was such a special  time and as we wrote 20+C+M+B+22 CMB is Latin for

Christus Mansionem Benedicat (Christ bless this house) at the same time the letters are the first letters of the wise men Casper, Melchoir and Balthasar.

We thank Mrs O’Connor for making these beautiful memories with our children – giving meaning and depth to special liturgical events.

  • Mr and Mrs Zolotarczuk

Thu 06 Jan 2022 Laura Orr

On Wednesday 22nd December 2021 we celebrated Mr Zolotarczuk's marriage to his bride Steph. On a beautiful sunny day, the couple married at St Peter's Church in Stonyhurst. A choir of children from St Joseph's Primary School brought music to the event as they sang a variety of carols throughout the service.

We wish Mr and Mrs Zolotarczuk well as they start this new journey together.
