Conservation of numbers and partitioning to explore number bonds

Practical maths activities in our indoor and outdoor learning environments are helping children extend their own learning about numbers and number operations, building on from previous learning and working towards the early learning goal of recalling number bonds to 5 and to 10. While some are getting a better understanding of what each number really means, others are practising counting using one-to-one correspondence and recognition of numbers, some are now able to recall number bonds which make 10. We provide lots of opportunities for children to take ownership of their learning and recognise what their individual learning targets are to ensure they make as much progress as possible in a variety of fun and practical ways.
