Chinese Lunar New Year celebrations

Our EYFS children have been learning about celebrations in other parts of the world. This week we have learned how the Chinese name their years after 12 different animals and this year is the year of the dragon. With red and gold being considered lucky colours for Chinese families, our easel has been full of red, yellow and gold paper and paint. Practising our DT skills, we’ve made Chinese dragons using forks to paint with, card folding skills and tools to punch holes and fix with brass fasteners. We tried using chopsticks to eat prawn crackers, rice and noodles for our snack and have practised further in our role play area.
We were also very lucky to receive a traditional Chinese gift of a red and gold envelope containing a coin, let’s hope it leads to good luck in the year ahead.
