Learning about Winter

While the roads and pavements may have been very slippery and making life difficult, the Winter weather couldn’t have come at a better time for our EYFS children as we have been learning about the season of Winter in these first weeks of term.
All children have painted a snowman or snow lady and the reception children are using their imaginations and phonics skills to think of adventures they could go on with their snow person and are writing their own stories. Our display is almost finished and pictures will be added to this gallery soon, so keep checking!

We have been practising folding and cutting skills to make snowflakes and draw Wintery pictures with chalk.

Through stories and discussions we have learned that although polar bears and penguins love the snow and ice, they do not live together, with polar bears living near the North Pole in the Arctic and the penguins living near the South Pole in Antarctica. We have been helping them escape from the frozen ice blocks by using our warm hands to melt the ice.

On cold Tuesday mornings we have loved the treat of warm buttered toast at snack time.
