St Joseph's Roman CatholicPrimary School
To grow daily in God's love, blossoming in His will
One of our annual class assemblies is the celebration of the Feast of the Presentation of Jesus at the temple in Jerusalem. Our reception children told the school about the significance of this celebration, which is also known as Candlemas. The roles of Mary, Joseph, Simeon and Anna were played beautifully by our children, while others read scripture, bidding prayers or explanations of the celebration. It is a reminder that Jesus is the light of the world.
While the assembly began in the hall, we then followed Mary and baby Jesus into a darkened chapel and watched silently as each child brought in a candle and placed it under the altar. As the light grew, we could see how Jesus really is the light of the world and is there with us in dark and worrying times.
We were so proud of how our very young children led such a wonderful collective worship.
