Comparing height, length and width

In addition to daily practise of number recognition and counting skill, we are developing our understanding of size. We have been comparing the length, height and weight of various objects. This led to the children choosing equipment and toys to measure each other. Radley then decided to use the Mobilo pieces to find out who was the tallest after she, Rory and Hazel all measured 11 pieces. It was then predicted that Mrs Geldard would probably be 100 pieces tall. (Or long to be correct since we had to lie down!) I wasn’t quite that tall and would have measured less if I’d tucked my hair under, but the children concluded that I was one mobilo piece longer than Mrs Williams! There isn’t anything quite as wonderful as child initiated learning. 😊
