Children from the youngest two classes in the school presented a production of Babushka for relatives and friends. This unusual play is a nativity with a difference. Babushka is a sad woman whose only interest is cleaning her own house. Then she hears of the birth of Christ and travels to see the new baby. Her kindness to those she meets on the way is also seen as kindness to the baby Jesus and Babushka's sadness is lifted. She celebrate with a Russian style dance.
The children entertained their audience with songs and dance. There were many lines to learn and the children delivered them confidently. It was amazing to see so many children acting, singing and dancing. The two performances of Jack and the Beanstalk, Roald Dahl style were received with an ovation by the proud parents, friends, relatives and teachers. The production showcased some graceful dancing and accomplished singing by the children from years 3,4,5 and 6. Ducks and hens flocked on to the stage, organised by a variety of other year 6 farmyard creatures and the giant, though diminutive in stature had very distinctive nose! Each and every child was a star on stage.
Four children from Year 2 went to St. Augustine's to try out Kurling. They competed against around 30 other schools. The team did really well with 3 victories, a draw and 1 loss. Unfortunately it was not quite good enough to move into the semi finals but we were very proud of how well they played.
