Two teams of year 3 and 4 children took part in the annual Ribble Valley schools gymnastics competition at St Augustine's RC School. 22 teams took part and although we weren't in medal positions, all our children performed brilliantly and were great ambassadors for the school.
The Foundation stage class led Friday's assembly with the focus on the Feast of the presentation of our Lord (Candlemas). Some children acted out the story of Simeon and Anna at the temple when Mary and Joseph brought Baby Jesus 40 days after his birth. Simeon (acted by Albert) lifted Jesus in the air saying, "Jesus is the Light of the World". Other children showed candles they had made in class and demonstrated how different kinds of light can be compared to how Jesus works in our lives by showing us the way, bringing joy and offering us comfort in worrying times.
The reception and nursery children are working hard this half term, but having lots of fun as they learn. Our math's activities have been focussing on accurate counting and finding 1 more or less than a number for the nursery children, while reception children are becoming more and more confident at completing and recording addition and subtraction problems. The Drs role-play area is popular, with many injections, blood tests and mending of broken bones! We have had some fantastic snowy and frosty weather so there have been lots of opportunities for mark making, shape and pattern hunting, exploring freezing and melting, and even enough snow to make a tiny snowman! It has been lovely to welcome Grace into our class.
