Our children enjoyed a special morning painting Chinese masks, colouring pictures of monkeys for the Chinese year of the monkey, and using chopsticks to eat snacks of rice, noodles and prawn crackers. Shen, a student from Saint Mary's Hall, came to talk to the children about his life in China. He demonstrated the correct way of using chopsticks, and wrote lots of messages for us. It was a "Gong Hey Fat Choy" for everyone!

Nine children represented St. Joseph's at this years Ribble Valley gymnastics competition at St. Augustine's. They had all worked hard over the past few weeks, improving their floor work and pushing themselves to get onto the vault. Twenty five teams took part in the competition, and our A team- Adam, Benedict, Ashton, Josephine and Florence were placed 7th, which is a great achievement. As always, it was very difficult to choose who should receive the annual gymnastics trophy, since all children had made wonderful progress, and Adam and Benedict had worked consistently at a high standard for 3 years.
In the end it was Ashton who scored highly in the competition, showing the most improvement since last year. He also showed a great attitude and commitment, after initially believing he wasn't good enough to be in the team! Well done Ashton. Once again Grace Gilbert has shown her talent by coming second in the Ribble Valley Cross Country race for the second year running. The girls' team was Lyla, Therese, Josephine, Poppy, Grace Crabtree and Grace Gilbert and they were an excellent 4th overall. The boys team was a young team of mainly year 3 and 4 pupils, they will be challenging for a high place next year. The team was Benedict, Jacob, Adam, Freddie, Michael and Max.
